⛓️Chain Messages

Chain multiple messages together so that the context of the conversation is not lost when pinning them.

You've found a funny message from a friend you'd like to send to a Pin Channel, so you're tempted to give it a Pin reaction. One problem: It's been sent as multiple messages, so pinning the last one will only display an image, the context will be lost, and the joke will not work.

There's a simple way to solve this with Chain Messages. Using the Discord context menu, you can select the source message you want to modify first by right clicking on the message (or long-pressing on mobile), selecting Apps > Select this message.

You can then go to any message sent earlier than the one you've selected, right-click/long-press, and select Apps > Add to chain.

You'll be shown a preview of how the message looks before deciding if you want to add it to the chain.

You can continue to add messages to the chain after this until you're satisfied. Selecting a message will allow you to add any message to its chain for a period of an hour before it's automatically un-selected.

After this, you can use a Pin reactable to pin the whole conversation thread.

This is not limited to one user: you can include multiple people in a message chain.

If a message is already a reply to someone else's message, it'll automatically be converted into a chain with no additional input required.

While all people involved with the chain will show up on the pinned message's title, the author of the source message (the one you've selected) is the only one who'll receive karma for the use of the reactable.

Quick chaining

If you use Chain to message often, a quirk of the system is that after you use a Reactable on any message, it automatically will select the message for you.

In addition to this, you can add messages to a chain after you've pinned them and they'll update automatically.

Combining these two concepts together, you can add messages to a chain with less effort by changing the mode of operation: Pin the message first, which will automatically select it for you.

Add another message to the chain:

And the Pinned Message updates in real time, with less steps required.
